Cynthia
(Sarah Torgov) is released from
the mental institute to her
husband who tells her
psychiatrist they would both like
to have another baby.
She needs some love and time.
They plan to go to the small
islands island off of Seattle
with their friends on their own
seaplane where they spent their
honeymoon but their plane crashes
on a deserted coastal island.
Cynthia keeps having flashback of
what happened to her baby when
there is an incident happening.
They run into an elderly couple
named Pa (Rod Steiger) and Ma
(Yvonne DeCarlo) and are invited
to their lodge for shelter and
food.
They also meet their so-called
kids whom are full grown adult's
dressed and acting like children.
One of them is Fanny (Janet
Wright) who is told by her Ma
that she is 12 years old and she
plays with her dolls.
When everyone heads to bed Pa
says that there will be no
devil's play.
The next day they these middle
aged adults whom are living the
lifestyles of kids are killing
these people one by one plus
Fanny shows Cynthia her main baby
doll which is a corpse. Suddenly
all but Cynthia is murdered and
Cynthia goes crazy again and
becomes one of Ma and Pa's
children.
Then Fanny shows Cynthia her new
"dollies" which are the
corpses of her friends.
This was well made
but very twisted and a little too
much. Made on quite a fair budget
though.
It's disturbing to see a lady who
is trying to gain her sanity
starts to lose it again in the
end.
The acting is good.
I enjoyed Rod Steiger's
role as the demented Pa as he's
been around for a long time doing
films and a household name too
which helps this film no doubt.
I also enjoyed Sarah Torgov and
Janet Wright's
performances too since they had
good timing.
Of course we get to see
Michael J. Pollard play one
of the whacky type roles as one
of the children of Pa and Ma but
he is usually typecast playing
these kinds of roles cause he's
usually so good at playing them.
There is some gore
in it as people are getting
killed and used as corpses but
it's been a while since I've seen
this film to remember the
details.
The directing by
John Hough
is also well done he certainly
knew what he wanted out of the
actors and pursued his career as
a director in many other films as
well as TV shows.
The music was
composed by Alan Parker
whom has composed other music for
film & TV.
