SCREAM QUEEN OF THE DEEP SOUTH: TAKING FIVE WITH SARAH VIRGINIA BROCK by Owen Keehnen

Lovely 22 year-old Alabama based actress Sarah Virginia Brock is proof that there is a thriving horror world right in The Heart of Dixie. The up and coming scream queen has had roles in several projects such as 'We Are Marshall' , 'Lounge Act', and 'Pretty Vacants' (during which she was accidentally stabbed in the leg!). However, she is also making an impact in the horror world of the deep south with indie fright titles like 'Scream Farm' and 'No Return' as well as the upcoming flicks 'Zen: Hunter', 'Urban Decay', and 'Second Date' in which she plays a tranny! It's no wonder the enthusiastic actress was recently named Scream Queen of the Month by the popular website. Sarah Virginia was also kind enough to take some time and talk with us about her roles, the horror scene in Alabama, being a teenage outcast, and the perks of being a Scream Queen of the Month.... which by-the-way don't include a toaster oven!

Hi Sarah Virginia, why don't you start the Racks and Razors readers off with a visual and describe the room where you are answering these questions?

There are white walls all around me. There's two white couches, a red chair, an old stereo with a lot of CD's by it, and a TV. There are also a lot of pictures of my sister and me above the fireplace which is across from one of the couches. In between the couches is a small table with a lamp and a picture of my fiancee' and I on it.

Tell me all about your work as Heather in Jim O'Rear's 'Scream Farm'. Can you give me a teaser that is going to make the movie irresistible to our readers?

Heather was the type of girl that was scared of EVERYTHING. She was the first one to scream in any situation, a very insecure girl. It seemed as though the only thing that she loved about her life was her boyfriend. I didn't get a lot of time to explore that on screen, but the movie is a lot of fun to watch. There are also a lot of cute girls and zombies riding go-carts!

I see you also just did some work on a horror short film called 'No Return'. Tell me a bit about that project.

It's about a guy that killed a girl and one year after that, he returned to the scene of the crime and was haunted by her ghost. I played her best friend pleading on the news for someone to find her.

Do you have any other upcoming projects you would like to let the www. racksandrazors.com.. readers know about?

I just did a movie called "Urban Decay". I played a girl that was tied to a chair and then got her eyes cut out! Next month I'm doing a movie called "Second Date". It's a horror/comedy and I play a tranny! (Really!). Then in May, I'll be doing a move called 'Zen:Hunter'. It's about a girl who is trying to find her missing best friend, who is really faking her own disappearance! I play one of the victims.

So what is the independent horror film world like in Alabama?

It's getting bigger. A few years ago, I never would've thought I would be building my career as a Scream Queen here.

You're just fresh in your career; at 22 do you have any plans for heading out for the promise of more in Hollywood or New York?

Yes. My fiancee' and I want to move to Hollywood in a few years. I just want to get some more experience under my belt first.

So have there been many perks with being named Scream Queen of the Month by the popular site? A toaster over? A sash? Any additional film offers?

You know, I should get a toaster oven! Hmph! Haha, anyways, I actually have gotten some film offers. One of them being 'Zen:Hunter'. Being Scream Queen of the month was a very good thing for me.

What was the first movie you saw that caused you to sleep with the lights on?

'Child's Play'. Who knew that a doll could be so creepy? In fact, I can't even own a Chucky doll! Did you know that they're remaking it?

Yeah, I had heard that. Back in the 1950s there were a series of films with titles like 'I was a Teenage Frankenstein' and 'I was a Teenage Werewolf'. If there were a movie made of Sarah Virginia Brock's teen years (not so terribly long ago) it would be called 'I was a Teenage __________________' and why...

"I was a Teenage Outcast!" It's always been my dream to be an actress, and people laughed at me for that back in school. It's just not something that you hear about a lot in Alabama. It's also rare to stay a virgin during high school, and people laughed at that as well. Dating another outcast didn't help much, either. My life in high school would make for a great comedy! I even thought that at the time. I always try to keep a sense of humor in the darkest of times.

Okay we're pulling the car into the Sarah Virginia Brock Drive In. What triple feature of scare flicks is on the bill for tonight and what goodies are they going to be serving up at the concession stand?

The movies would be: 1. 'Dial M for Murder' 2. 'Sweeney Todd' 3. 'The Birds' The concession stand would serve cheese fries, popcorn, cotton candy, every soft drink you can think of, Coke floats, nachos, hot dogs, water, candy! MMMMMMM!!!! I'm hungry now!

What scares you in real life?

Knives! Oh man, they scare me like crazy! I was stabbed (on accident) in a movie and I had to get three stitches. I try to stay away from knives as much as possible!
