Owen: Hi Debbie, Did you
have a good Halloween? What did you do?
Debbie: Owen, I had AN AWESOME HALLOWEEN!!!! Please check
out my website, it has all my HALLOWEEN
appearances still up. I was on the big screen
with THE PREDATOR at an event on HOLLYWOOD Blvd.
Also, I went to a party EVERY NIGHT. The
"RAINBOW" Halloween party, A MASQUERADE
BALL at THE FENIX", JEFF RECTOR'S ANNUAL
HALLOWEEN PARTY, and of course the
"CARNIVAL" on Santa Monica blvd. I
ALWAYS dress up as "AN ULTIMATE SEXUAL,
OTHERWORLDLY, SCREAM QUEEN, with a VAMPIRE
SPIN", with all the diamond jewelry and
tiara, fishnets and lot's of skin.
Owen: So
in addition to your other talents I also have
read you are a skilled astrologer. Do you
consider yourself a typical Taurus?
Debbie: Yes and no. I'm flighty like a BUTTERFLY. That is
my Libra moon, and I'm not\line married. I'm with
someone because we're drawn to each other, and
when it's time to move on, then my wings take me
to a new adventure. Taurus needs security, and
loves to know someone is always there. Also,
Money is very important to me, and I've been very
successful, but I turn down gigs if my heart
isn't in them. I have to feel my spirit, not just
the money. I am a good cook, very TAURUS.
HOWEVER, I HAVEN'T COOKED FOR YEARS. I'm always
taken out to beautiful restaurants. I am an
artist and LOVE the ARTS!!! VERY TAURUS, and I
LOVE ROMANCE!!!! I'm stubborn like a Taurus cause
once I make up my mind to do something I NEVER
GIVE UP until I accomplish it. Also, I love the
land, the country, the woods and fields, flowers,
and wildlife, and ALL kinds of animals. I also
feel very secure in my home that I purchased
which has increased in value. But, I LOVE travel,
especially to exotic locations. Back to the ARTS.
I LOVE fine arts, ballet, the impressionist
painters - Degas, etc. And of course I love the
theater. VERY VENUSIAN, my ruling planet. Also,
I'm trustworthy and loyal, both Taurus traits. I
came out to L.A. when I finished school on the
advice of my Uncle Carroll Righter, The famous
Astrologer to the stars in Hollywood, and I
learned the science of Astrology from him, a
mentor of mine. He told me acting in L.A. was
excellent for me, and he is proven accurate. I
also LOVE silks and velvet fabrics on me to wear.
Taurus LOVES fine, EXPENSIVE, good feeling
clothes, and BEAUTIFUL PERFUMES, the senses are
always heightened. Very EROTIC TOO! ---
Owen: So
you Uncle was a mentor in the astrology field...
did you have a mentor in the acting arena?
Debbie: My late Uncle PAUL ROEBLING!!!!! (From the
Roebling's that built the Brooklyn Bridge.) He
starred in "Blue Thunder"
with Roy Scheider, and "Prince of
The City", with Treat Williams. }
Owen: What
movie stars influenced you?
Debbie: No, I only watched the old horror films, Bela and
Boris were the big horror stars. Greta Garbo and
Marilyn Monroe have always been 2 actresses that
I've highly admired, and that have influenced me
---- the mystery of Garbo, and the sexuality of
Marilyn. Scream Queens didn't become big until
Tipi Hedren and Janet Leigh. I guess Jamie Lee
could be considered a modern influence. I was
more into the "Dracula"
movies. Remember the Scream Queen became popular
in the 90's, and I was on that wave, I began on
the 3rd set of trading cards of the ORIGINAL
SCREAM QUEENS. I'm also influenced by Charlie
Chaplin. He's an icon!!!!
Owen: Do
you take pride in being a scream queen or do you
consider the label as demeaning and/or limiting?
Debbie:
I ABSOLUTELY take GREAT PRIDE in being a Scream
Queen, making me a celebrity, and giving me the
opportunity to meet my fans, travel to many
conventions, and express my appreciation to them.
It makes me feel SO APPRECIATED as an actress, an
artist and a woman. SO MANY DOORS have opened up
for me in my career, and it has brought me SO
MUCH JOY and FUN!!!!!!
Owen: What
has been your best and your worst filmmaking
experiences?
Debbie: My BEST FILM EXPERIENCE TO DATE IS MY RECENT,
SOON TO BE RELEASED "A" film, THE
LAST RUN starring FRED SAVAGE. The story
is on my website, under "LATEST FILM
EXPERIENCE". It's very complete. My WORST
FILM EXPERIENCE was my first starring role when I
was first starting out in L.A. making my DREAMS
COME TRUE..."Bruce Lee Returns From
The Grave". I had to do all MY OWN
STUNTS, and I thought I was going to die for
real. It was way over schedule, and no one spoke
English other then the Male star, and the food
was weird Korean, which made me feel sick. Plenty
more on this experience, UNBELIEVABLE stuff. I
just remember thinking, if this is what I need to
do to become a star, then I'm going to do it.
It's now a Kung-Fu classic, and when you see it,
I look about 12 yrs old.
Owen: If
some newbie came to you asking for advice about
becoming a scream queen what advice would you
give her?
Debbie: I was trained as a professional theater actress
in N.Y.C. on Broadway, so it is very important to
me that an actress studies acting with a great
teacher. LOOKS can get you so far, but TALENT
wins out in the long run. You've got to ALWAYS be
"perfecting" and "honing"
your craft. That includes Dance and Speech. Also,
be aware of the casting couch. It's important NOT
TO BE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF!!!! That's another
"BOOK", not just a question! Most
IMPORTANT is "TO BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, AND
NEVER GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS!" Also, NEVER
LIMIT yourself. As a Scream Queen, I've also
worked in many "A" MOVIES WITH
MAINSTREAM STARS, like GOLDIE HAWN, STEVE
GUTTENBERG, DON JOHNSON, FRED SAVAGE, GARY BUSEY,
the list goes on and on. I'm very appreciative
for this. And, be humble. Remember that it is for
your FANS, they made you a star, knowing like the
8 winds, we can lose it all in a moment...We are
actors, and acting is what is important.
Owen: What
is the toughest way you've ever had to
"die" onscreen?
Debbie: The toughest death is a toss up between "MINDTWISTER"
when I was ball gagged, molested and had to crash
through a window to my death, knowing I had to
get the "DEATH LEAP" right on the first
take, due to the budget. The FAKE GLASS BIG
WINDOWS are very expensive. That movie was Fred
Olen Ray directing, and starring Telly Savalas
and Richard Roundtree. I think it was Telly's
last screen appearance. The other Death scene
being, "THE HAUNTING OF MORRELLA"
when I had my throat slashed in a bathtub, a
period piece, and I had to lay in a pool of blood
for a seemingly infinitely long time. I was naked
and freezing. Nicole Eggert, and Lana Clarkson,
David McCallum starred in this popular JIM
WYNORSKI film.
Owen: Debbie,
you do a lot of conventions - what's the
experience usually like?
Debbie:
When I go to conventions, not only do I get the
chance to meet and visit with my fans, but also I
see many of my celebrity friends that I only see
at conventions. Also, I have SO MUCH FUN at the
parties that are going on, and ALL the PHOTO OPS,
and videos that are taken. I LOVE staying in
hotels too!!!!! It's SO EROTIC.
Owen: What
are your favorite movies in the horror/thriller
genre?
Debbie: Of Course, "FRANKENSTEIN"
with Boris Karloff, and ALL the BELA LUGOSI
films. They can't be touched. Also, the "INTERVIEW
WITH A VAMPIRE" was AWESOME!!!!!
Owen:
Do you have a special secret for emitting an
especially blood curdling scream?
Debbie: My most EFFECTIVE SCREAM is the one that comes
out of the moment of FEAR in the scene that I'm
filming. How I get to it, is either from the
scary monster, or event in the movie, or from
"emotional memory" , or "sensory
recall" from something in my past, and
sometimes a combination. That's when acting
technique is very important!
Owen: What
makes you scream in real life?
Debbie:
I scream in real life when something, or someone
FRIGHTENS me! It's - really that simple.
Owen: What
criterion do you usually use for choosing your
roles?
Debbie: My
films and movie directors usually choose me, (the
law of attraction, I chant the mantra
Nam-myoho-renge-kyo) and the roles are PERFECT
for me. I NEVER do any roles that are less than
I'm worthy of, I NEVER SETTLE. They can be
anything from cameos to starring roles.
Owen: What
is your dream horror role?
Debbie: My FAVORITE horror film role is any "FEMMES
FATALES" who is involved in an
AWESOME story!!!! My favorite was Shannon from
"DEATH DANCERS" that I
starred in. I played a young, innocent virgin who
lost her innocence and became a SUPERNATURAL
CREATURE of life enraged with lust and revenge,
with lot's of LOVE and BLOOD!!!! With an
INSPIRING VICTORY in the end, overcoming
insurmountable obstacles, going through my human
revolution, and creating value in my life as well
in the world. Also, from this outcome spread
PEACE and HAPPINESS for humanity
Owen: Where
do you see yourself 5 years from now?
Debbie: Where do I see myself in 5 years? I want to be
still "ROCK'IN ON" in
film and T.V.!!!!!
Owen: Thanks
Debbie, and I'm sure you will be. |
