Owen:
So how did you career and title
as a scream queen come about?
Debbie: My title as a Scream Queen came
about when I did my first
convention after filming my first
Horror movie for Falcon Video.
The people reeled me in and I've
been here ever since but before
movies I always sang and had a
song on the market with music
based fans that started my fan
club in the first place and then
there were more. There’s
always room for more------------
Owen: Always…and have you always
been a fan of horror and similar
genre films? If so, what
are some of your favorites?
Debbie:
I watched the horror movies like
the rest of us but I never
thought of myself as a fan. I am
now!! I like the classics as well
as all the new stuff. No
Favorites.
Owen: What is
the craziest way you have ever
died on screen?
Debbie:
I have died so many ways I would
really have to think about the
craziest way. We should put this
question out to the fans for I'm
sure they would know. I died all
the typical and gross ways
imaginable.
Owen: There it is…the interactive
Debbie D fan question. I hope
people do respond with answers.
That’s how to discover what
made the real impact. What has
been your least comfortable
moment on screen?
Debbie: Wow, you're really asking some
original questions here and I
want to be as honest and correct
as possible. I remember just
recently when I was filming some
intro's for some Troma movies. I
was on this medication for an ear
problem and it wouldn't allow me
to sleep and I kept messing up my
lines and had to keep doing them
over which is so totally not like
me at all. I was very
embarrassed. I haven't seen the
footage yet but I heard it came
out fine. I was portraying the
part of a girl that doesn't sleep
- now tell me that wasn't ironic.
Seriously though, even without a
drug-induced state of being -
Sleep deprivation is a serious
thing and I have felt this brain
dead thing quit a few times in my
career because of lack of sleep.
I’m nocturnal and these
things are mostly filmed in the
morning hours when I'm still in
my sleep pattern and when you
sleep two and three hours you can
not possibly be/look your best or
be your true self. I always
wished we could start filming
when I've finished sleeping. It
would surely be better. I’ve
learned to deal with it over the
years but I don't think any
director has had all of me - at
my best yet! Any night directors
interested in filming?
Owen: So what do
you do while the rest of the
world sleeps?
Debbie:
Well I do what everyone else does
in the daytime. I find it more
peaceful with a lot less
interruptions!! The only bad
thing is most outside things are
closed so I have to fit in those
things when the majority of the
world is up --- like the post
office, Dr.'s office etc.
Owen:
What has been your best
filmmaking experience?
Debbie:
I loved shooting my
"Destiny Vampire
Mermaid” come to life comic
action adventure stories the
best. Making her come to life
straight from the pages of the
comic was both challenging and
fun. I just recently finished
filming the four and fifth
stories. My best filmmaking
experience still precedes me.
Owen:
On screen you often kill for
blood hunger, what makes you want
to kill off screen?
Debbie:
I don't always play a vampire and
not always is the vampire the
traditional kind. Some need blood
every day and some can go months
even years without it.
Destiny doesn't need it everyday.
She saves up her appetite to kill
the evil and unjust. Since she is
both a vamp and a vampire she
also eats regular food to
survive.
I Debbie D thirst for truth and
honesty and for every one of us
to succeed in life and to make
our dreams a reality!
Owen:
Do you have any secrets for
letting out a great
blood-curdling scream?
Debbie:
I pretend I'm really in the
situation, [acting] and let out a
big scream!!!
Owen: What makes
you scream in real life?
Debbie:
I don't do too much
screaming in real life unless I
need to get someone’s
attention!
Owen: I'm
curious about casting for these
movies...are they more just
getting your foot in the door and
then someone saying "Hey,
we're shooting next week why not
come over and get sliced" or
are there more formal auditions
or what?
Debbie:
As for the "B"
movies you usually get hired from
your name and that you're
reliable and get the job done and
have plenty of fans who will take
a look at the finished product.
The bigger budget movies want you
to come in and read for the part.
In the "B" business
this is a waste of
everyone’s time.
Owen: Going
along with that if someone came
to you for advice about getting
into the SQ biz what would you
tell her?
Debbie: If someone wanted to get into the
"B" business just fresh
without a name yet and to get her
feet wet I would say hold on to
your day job 'cause everyone
seems to want to do trade these
days. It’s hard to find the
producers who want to pay to get
their projects done. They aren't
getting the bigger names - that's
for sure. I am so reasonable I
find it insulting for someone to
ask me to do their project for
nothing or to try and go below my
cheap rates. The new starters
also need to be at ease with
their nude body, makeup and
clothing of all kinds. You have
to want this business with all
your heart 'cause it takes all
you’ve got and more!
Owen:
What is the secret of
supreme self-promotion?
Debbie:
You have to be willing
to do what ever it takes to
advertise. If you don't have the
natural skill or would like to
learn more on the subject you can
take a course in marketing to
learn. A neighborhood college or
law office should be able to help
you.
Owen: Do you
have a theory about
the whole SQ nudity and gore
connection?
Debbie: Nudity and gore is what
"B" movies are. Sure
there is a story but it's the
adrenalin rush of both sex and
panic that keeps us coming back
for more. We the Scream Queen's
give you that!
Owen: Do you
feel a special affinity for any
sort of creature or animal?
Debbie: I find myself best compared to a
cat and a fish. I love all living
creatures and that includes bugs.
It’s amazing to me that we
all have a heart no matter how
small. We must learn to
appreciate one another for we all
have a job to do here and if we
help each other to live in
harmony. The best is yet to
come!!!
Owen:
Do you have a dream horror role?
Debbie: I would like to play the role of
an entertainer that struggles
with all the ups and downs in
your face then finally makes it!
Also, I’d love a role that
shows Helen Keller grown up.
Owen: You are
always working, what new projects
are coming?
Debbie:
I'll be filming two new Horror
movies this fall. Check my
website for more information at
www.DebbieD.com or simply e-mail
me at Ultimatescreamqn@aol.com
Owen:
Debbie --- thanks again.
