A tough New York officer Sarchie (Eric Bana) goes on an investigation on a series of crimes that are reportedly possessed in which he doesn't believe at first but when things get out of hand he goes on the hunt with a priest Mendoza (Edgar Ramírez) to try and exorcise these victims.

The story is scattered but will try my best to sum up my review on this .... The beginning seems rather confusing as it shows a war in Iraq with soldiers discovering a cave like passageway along with what goes on and people behaving bizarre like which I think is an okay beginning to a supernatural story.
Suddenly it's present day in which we have two tough as nails NYPD police officers Sarchie and his partner Butler going on a mission to help out a dysfunctional situation on arresting a guy beating his wife as the setting looked impressive but a bit too fast paced. Yet it worked out well as this leaves a mysterious feel to a possession as well as Butler punching someone out. You don't see a lawman doing this every day.
The two officers are called to go to the Bronx Zoo as the animals are acting crazy as well as a woman dropping her toddler into the moat along with a lion getting aggressive towards these officers which looked very suspenseful watching the whole outcome of all of this.
While Sarchie is looking for more clues with supposed hauntings in a deep dark basement there's some odd bizarre settings which works in well for a film this type as well as missing clues from what happened at the zoo.
There's a good psychological situation when Sarchie comes home and his daughter Christina gets all hyper and annoying when being excited and happy about something and wants his attention but he gets harsh with her which changes everything. The timing was greatly set out during this scene.
Plus we spot good shots on the possessed Jane in the cell with one of the matron's dead on the floor as well as intense moments on her getting out of the cell in which this was done in a great supernatural way as fans may enjoy this moment while watching this.
At home little Christina is in bed and it's late at night in which she spots her jack in the box winding by itself as this is a good moment wondering as to what will happen afterwards since the shots on all of this were carefully done to the point that something scary and terrifying is about to unravel.
During the final showdown of things Sarchie and a preacher Mendoza tracks down some possessed victims in which they are in a run down building as things were action packed as well as wondering if someone will take these two by surprise. Things were well energised during these moments with tons of powerful struggling moments. Also Mendoza tries to perform and exorcism which looked strongly done as well as this preacher almost giving in to the madness which is common for a story of this kind.
Bottom line is that the moments in this flick was well done but it's a bit slow and at times hard to follow. Some exciting moments but the story is a little too long. Good effects though so this film had something going for it.

The acting is well performed in which Eric Bana (Sarchie) brought in on strongly with his tough as nails presence as the lawman but with a good heart as well as having a somewhat bubbly attitude too. He brought this all to life for what he did in the story and had the right tough looks for this role too.
Edgar Ramírez
(Mendoza) had the right deceiving rough looks and long hair to not look like a preacher and pulls it off well with his serious attitude. He really knew on how to get into a discussion with stuff. Also is very strong while performing and exorcism as well as losing it showing great powerful energy within all of this.
Olivia Munn
(Jen) as the wife to the leading actor seemed to do her part quite well with her light headed attitude as well as showing a happy type of behavior. Also does well whenever she revealed that she was disappointed in a situation. Knew her stuff quite well.
Sean Harris (Santino) brought out the disturbed behavior as he draws out a great intensity and acting perfectly powerful when he tries to attack. He certainly studied his part inside out when he acts possessed. He can shock the viewers that he does this so well.
Joel McHale (Butler) lived to play an obnoxious rough and tough lawman as anyone can remember his performance who has seen this. Got into his character strongly as well as showing off a ton of adrenaline. He was perfect with being physical and aggressive.
Lulu Wilson (Christina) brings out the spunk in her part as a little girl in which she knew on how to act persistent in a scene as well as showing some upsetting emotions. Offered a nice versatality into her part. Plus does well by acting scared along with letting out a perfect scream too.
Olivia Horton (Jane) was another one who can be remembered in this flick with her supporting role. She was great by acting vicious with her possessive attitude. Has a great screeching voice whenever she was talking as well as springing into action big time whenever she had a scene to do. Plus shows off great vicious and wide eyed expressions to top it all off.

Violent bloodsheds here and there.
Person's wirst is bloodily bitten.
Bloodied coropse is revealed.
Blood is oozing on the top of a possessed person's head.

Christopher Young was great with his composing classical scores for this flick with deep and powerful low trombone playing. Also great metal scratching and rusty sounds. Gret hissing sounds too. Plus some drum tapping sounds as well. However he has the light echo piano playing which is today's standards that is used in a film as I hate it with a passion.
