A
police detective named Eric Matthews
(Donnie Wahlberg) has arrested people he
has set up and isn't happy about him plus
doesn't have a good relationship with his
son Daniel (Erik Knudsen) and then Eric
is called upon a crime scene by the
maniac Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) and finds the
place where he is doing all of this plus
discovers he has his son trapped in the
house where he plays his games of death
and torture if they don't find the right
key to escape a room along with the other
people he has arrested in which they are
inhaling a lethal nerve gas in which they
will die if they don't find an antidote
in two hours.
He tries to convince Jigsaw to release
his son but still even he must play his
game in order to save his son's life
while these victims are alos pitted by a
drugdealer named Xavier (Franky G) who
gets physical and aggressive towards
everyone and slowly losing his sanity
making him dangerous to be around while
many of these people who fails to be
successful at this game while trying to
collect needles to find a key are dying a
worst death they can imagine which
includes being burned to death in an oven
boiler.
We spot a great beginning for this flick with
shots on somebody in a room with a tv screen displaying John as his disguise as Jigsaw
telling him what he has to do in order to
get a key to unlock what's on his head
with good camera shots looking at the
object showing sharp spiked nails
surrounding the whole device as well as
him freaking out and panicking along with
good shots on a clock timing itself which
looked suspenseful.
There's a good dysfunctional argumentive
moment with both Eric Matthews with his son quarreling near a pierside on him
wanting to be with his Mom instead which
looked very realistic on the two of them
not seeing eye to eye on things.
A great moment with Eric trying to bust John for the
crimes he's doing with him acting slick about telling him he has his
son and alot of intense discussions between
the two of them like a mobster type scene
with good shots on each other when
they're talking and John telling
him what he has to do in order to keep
his son alive which really looked
effective.
There's many good aggressive moments with the main victims all waking up and realising
they're trapped in a room with good solo
shots on each of them along with their
good intense reactions while being
trapped there. There's also a good moment
with Amanda sobbing and trying to
discover some clues and knowing what
there is to survive this along with a
great demanding moment on Xavier acting forceful towards her on knowing
all of this and telling him she was there
before which looked powerfully done.
There's a nice shot showing a door with
exit spelled on it and some of them not
trusting it is along with a good shot on Xavier spotting a bat with spikes and
aggressively tearing it open which looked
neatly done.
Also in the story there's an effective
conversation between Amanda and Daniel Matthews after she discovers he's the son of a cop
who arrested her as well as discussing
how she experienced this game before
along with her tense words talking
about her addictions with good flashback
scene's with shots of her injecting
heroin in her arm as well as cutting her
wrists too.
Some good shots on Obi going into a fire boiler to reach for a
needle with good shots on the door
closing on him and a fire activating with
him panicking to try and get out along
with the rest trying to find a way to
rescue him which looked quite disturbing
and a horrifying way to die painfully in
heat in how this was all shot and
done.
A tense moment with everyone
entering a room and listening to a tape
on finding a key in a hole on the floor
with a bunch of needles along with a
great forceful moment on Xavier grabbing Amanda and throwing her
in with good painful close up shots on
her swimming in the needles with some
stabbed in her body as well as her
painful crying which makes it hard to
watch as well as her panicking to dig
through them to find the key along with a
good shot on the timer going while she's
doing this as well as him telling
her to hurry up. All of this brought
together looked believeably pressuring.
There's nice intense brawling between Xavier and Jonas with great
suspenseful shots on the two of them
going at it along with a nice intense
shot on Xavier himself taking the bat with
spikes and striking at his head.
There's great aggressions with Eric towards John as well as many
intense shots on him beating the crap out
of this fellow which looked good and
should please everyone sonce it looked
realistic thinking this guy is getting
what's coming to him.
Good reactions like Addison and some of the others gasping for breath
with gas spreading around the room in
which it looked convincing that they're
suffering for oxygen.
There's a nice shot on Addison reaching up at a glass box to get a
needle and then having her wrists stabbed
and trapped in it.
Nice moments with Xavier trying to attack with a knife and both Amanda and Daniel trying to get away
from him around the house with him on
their tail as well as them discovering
the abandoned bathroom with some corpses
and many great black and white fast
shots.
There's many good takes on Eric
trying to discover the house and being
armed with a gun while doing so which
looked very energised. There's also a
good shot on him in the bathroom slowly
going to the bathtub with a figure inside
and then leaping at him which almost
makes you jump.
There's a terrific energised moments
between Eric and Amanda at the end with nice aggressions between
both of them but I don't want to spoil
this.
Bottom line is that this is a nicely done
sequel in which we get to see the Jigsaw
/ John guy more so and why he's doing the
things that he does which is necessary
for a sequel to have. Plus there's some
more torturous moments as well as more
scene's of the house that Jigsaw has for
his victims which sometimes makes it more
adventureous too.
There's great moments with the lead
character Eric Matthews trying to
confront Jigsaw on how to save his son
which seems like a cross between a horror
version of Silence of the Lambs
and The Godfather.
There's many effective takes on this
which works perfectly for the story as
well as good survival moments with the
victims trying to find each key to
another passageway to the house in order
to try and get out with some of the lead
characters listening to Amanda as what to
do to survive the terror. There's also
some odd humouress one liners used in
this film too which worked very well. It
kinda relieves the tension from the first
film making it a bit easier to watch and
not being overly disturbed by the first
flick.
There's also alot of painful death
scene's in the film imagining what is the
worst way by getting killed which you'd
picture in your worst nightmare too.
To top it all off there's the old
bathroom grubby place like in the first
one explaining more so by where this was
located too as well as the remains of
corpses from the first flick proving that
this flick was a true sequel.
This film is a good sequel
but not as effective as the first one but
still enjoyable enough to watch all the
way through in which there's another
continuation making you want to find out
what happens next. A film for sure worth
checking out to find the unsolved
mysteries surrounding these victims in
the trapped house that could cause
torture and deaths.
The acting is
still quite good in which we spot a lead
performance by former New Kids on
the Block bublegum teen idol
idol Donnie Wahlberg (Eric Matthews) in which he
does a fairly passable job as a scumbag
police detective. He was better in the
film Dead Silence but he
tries to do what he can in this one. He
does come across as someone dysfunctional
which is a good pointer on his acting
skills but sometimes he overdoes it when
he goes in a yelling rage. However, there
were the odd times it worked well too. I
wouldn't be surprised if the Backstreet
Boys end up acting in a sequel.
Tobin Bell (Jigsaw / John) still struts his stuff
well as Jigsaw as well as his old conman
like attitude too. He certainly comes
across as someone close to a Hannibal
Lector type in this one and his role is
alot bigger too and explaning his
character more so. He has a harmless weak
old man features which really does the
trick in which he's a true maniac. He
almost acted like a horror mobster like
too.
Shawnee Smith (Amanda) showed nice energetic
emotions in which she reprises her role
too in which she shows more of her stuff
as someone trying to recover from drugs
in which she does well with her sobbing
emotions as well as her tough behavior
too. She came across as someone who
really knew how to be a leader in order
to escape this place everyone is trapped
in. Her performence almost reminded me of
someone who is a solider leading their
troops in which she drew that nicely.
Franky G (Xavier) really came across as
someone truly intimaditing in which his
part was a drug dealer and seemed to know
his part well as someone you don't want
to mess with. He truly knew how to act
violent and totally aggressive with his
actions bringing every ounce of energy to
the picture. A nice crying reaction on him in an intense moment. He stood out the most out of
all the cast and could be well remembered
for his performance in this one.
Beverley Mitchell (Laura) showed a nice
supporting part in her role as she knew
how to act paranoid and hysterical
showing great paranoid facial expressions
too. She was totally off the wall in a
great way with her performance in this
one.
A gun shoots a guys eye and
brain out looking graphic.
A person is being burned in an oven.
A man is whacked in the head with a
spiked bat.
A man cuts off the back of his neck to
take a key out.
A cut off foot is revealed in an
abandoned grubby bathroom.
A woman wrists are trapped in a glass box
with spikes stabbing at them.
A throat is slit with blood pouring out
of the neck
There's many terrific low
groaning sound effects with deep gloomy
keyboard composing plus there's tons of
beating sounds with violin music for the
real adventureous moments like always for
a suspenseful flick like this one. The
music was brought together by Charlie
Clouser who did the music for the
first one and made some great changes for
this one without sounding the same.
John: Hello Michael,
I want to play a game. So far in what
could loosely be called your life you've
made a living watching others. Society
would call you an informant, a rat, a
snitch. I call you unworthy of the body
you possess, of the life that you've been
given. Now we will see if you are willing
to look inward rather than outward to
give up the one thing you rely on in
order to go on living. The device around
your neck is a death mask. The mask is on
a spring timer. If you do not locate the
key in time the mask will close. Think of
it like a venus flytrap. What you are
looking at right now is your own body not
more than two hours ago. Don't worry,
you're sound asleep and can't feel a
thing. Taking into account that you are
at a great disadvantage here I'm going to
give you a hint as to where I've hidden
the key, so listen carefully. The hint is
this... It's right before your eyes. How
much blood will you shed to stay alive,
Michael? Live or die, make your choice.
John: [meeting
Eric Matthews] I want to play a game.
The rules are simple all you have to do
is talk to me, listen to me.if you do
that long enough you will find your son
in a safe and secure state. We haven't
properly introduced ourselves. My name is
John.
Amanda: We have to
play by the fucking rules!
Jonas: How do you
know all this?
Amanda: Because I've played
before.
Xavier: [turns
round to Addison] Look who's talking,
the only door you know how to open is
between ya' legs!
Addison: [lunges towards Xavier
in anger] Why don't you shut the hell
up all right!
Xavier: [shouting] Why
don't you shut the hell up?
Addison: [she lunges towards
him and they begin fighting] I'm sick
of your bullshit. You'd best bend over
before I land one on the back of your
cheek, asshole.
[they begin to fight more, but Jonas
steps in and grabs Addison]
Addison: Get the fuck off me!
Xavier: [picking
up Obi's note from Jigsaw] 'Obi'?
Jonas: What the fuck is a 'Obi'?
Obi: 'Ah-bi'. That's my name.
John: Hello Obi, I
want to play a game. For years you have
burned those around you with your lies,
cons, and deceits. Now you will have a
chance to redeem yourself, for the games
you've played with others, by playing one
of mine. Inside the device in front of
you are two antidotes for the poison
coursing through your veins. One is my
gift to you for helping me kidnap the
others, the second is for you to donate.
However, one will come with a price.
Remember Obi, once you're in Hell, only
the devil can help you out.
Amanda: If it's
stuck, it's a trap.
Xavier: Lady, this whole house is
a trap.
Daniel: Amanda, why
did he pick you?
Amanda: Because I was a fucking
junkie.
[flashes to Amanda shooting heroin]
Amanda: But you know what? I
passed his little test
[laughs]
Daniel: If you passed his test
then why are you back here?
Amanda: [flashes to Amanda
cutting her wrist] I wasn't being
very good to myself.
Daniel: [looks at the scars on
Amanda's arm] How long have you,
um...?
Amanda: I started in jail.
Daniel: What were you arrested
for?
Amanda: [yanks her arm away]
Possession.
Daniel: I thought you said...
Amanda: Maybe you should talk to
the cop who arrested me.
John: Hello, Xavier,
I want to play a game. It's similar to
the game you play as a drug dealer, the
game of giving hope to the desperate. I
think we can agree that your situation is
desperate, so I'm going to offer you
hope. By entering this room, you have
started a timer on the door in front of
you. When the timer runs out the door
will be locked forever, locking away the
antidote inside it. If you want to find
the key, you will have to crawl through
the same squalor that your customers
have. I'll give you one hint where to
find it.
[Xavier and Daniel move a bed frame,
revealing a pit full of hypodermic
syringes beneath]
John: It will be like finding a
needle in a haystack.
[laughs]
John: [as Eric is
destroying Jigsaw's drawings and
blueprints] How will you get a
conviction without all this evidence?
Eric Matthews: I don't need this
shit to convict you.
John: Go ahead. Destroy it. We
both know the sort of person you are. The
sort of person who guns down an unarmed
suspect. The sort of person who plants
evidence in order to obtain a conviction.
The sort of person whose wife leaves him
and whose son hates him.
Eric Matthews: Shut the fuck up!
Laura: X marks the
spot.
[points to the wall]
Amanda: What?
Addison: [looking at a picture
of Daniel next to Eric] What are you
doing with him?
Daniel: You know him?
Addison: Yeah! He's the guy who
put me away. He set me up!
Amanda: Tell me that's not your
father.
Addison: [pause] I can't
trust any of you.
John: The jigsaw
piece that I cut from my subjects was
only ever meant to be a symbol that that
subject was missing something. A vital
piece of the human puzzle. The survival
instinct.
Eric Matthews: This is all really,
really interesting, John. But right now
I'd really like for you to talk to me.
John: I am talking to you. You're
not listening.
John: Would you...
kindly get me a glass of water? I would
very much appreciate that...
Eric Matthews: I
swear, if I don't see my son. I'll rip
your fucking head off!
John: I don't intend to mock you
officer but I'm a cancer patient. How
could YOU possibly put me in more pain
than I'm already in?
[Det. Mathews throws
John around the room and breaks a finger]
John: [smiling] Now, that's
the Eric Matthews they gave medals to.
John: It's The Last
House on the Left...
Laura: That's the
second time I've had to wake up in this
shit hole.
Amanda: What is the
cure for Cancer, Eric? The cure for death
itself. The answer is immortality. By
creating a legacy, by living a life worth
remembering, you become immortal. So now
we find the tables are turned. It is I
who will carry on John's work after he
dies, and you are my first test subject.
Now you are locked away, helpless and
alone.
[Appears at door frame]
Amanda: Game Over.
[She slams to door shut]
Eric Matthews: [Screaming at
Amanda] Daniel! Daniel! You Fucking
Bitch! I'll Fucking kill you! You Fucking
Bitch!... You Fucking Bitch! I'll fucking
kill you! Noooooooo, Nooooooo! Help!
Nooooo... |
