THE DEMON IS LOOSE: Talking With Rising Goth Model/Actress Vanessa Rosa by Owen Keehnen

Talking with Vanessa Rosa is like taking a crash course of Demonology 101. That's probably because Demon just happens to be the model/actress' alter ego. This 21 year-old Rhode Island dynamo is determined, outspoken, and ready to take on the horror world with fangs bared and claws drawn. She has already begun her campaign with a multitude of photo spreads and advance PR such as being voted as a Scream Queen of the Month, gracing the pages of the CadaverGirls Calendar as Miss April, and most visibly as a very serious contender for the title Miss Horrorfest. She has even written a book called 'Gothix Model: A Guide to Alternative Modeling'. I haven't a doubt in the world that with the press and presence this woman generates the film roles will come soon enough --- and when they do she wants to be the one wielding the axe! Sit up straight and say hello to Vanessa Rosa/Demon in this exclusive racksandrazors.com interview.

Vanessa, why don't you start us off with a visual and describe the place where you are answered these questions?

Well, currently I'm in a dark, cold cellar. I can hear screams coming from the back room - and I see my cat licking ketchup of the floor....wait, that's not ketchup. Oh and there is some strange man sitting in the corner, breathing heavily and staring at me.

Tell me all about your alter ego Demon. How that persona came about?

Demon started off as a nickname for myself. When I was younger I was shy, geeky and very awkward. "Demon" was this bad ass persona that no one wanted to mess with. Mentally, I think I've trained myself to be Demon 24/7.

I also want to hear about the book you did called Gothix Model: a Guide to Alternative Modeling. What made you decide to do the book?

Ah, Gothix Model was my first book! I wrote it because before I started alternative/horror modeling I noticed something - I had not seen ONE dark skinned "GOTH" model around. So when I started this creepy form of modeling, I started getting emails and letters up the ass from people! A lot of them were from dark skinned girls who didn't know how to get started in the industry. My book consisted of everything from makeup tips, posing techniques, scam detection and even certain "modeling websites" to avoid.

What is the biggest advice you give to women who are looking to break into the alternative modeling world?

I've said it many times and I'll say it again! Don't be CLICHE with photos! Don't be the girl licking a bloody knife, or the one wearing "The crow" makeup. Its been done before, and its boring. Do something original. I've told this to many chicks and they totally avoid my warnings - then have to hear them nag about why no one is interested in working with them....umm because you're BLAH!

Has your being a finalist in Afterdark's Miss Horrorfest, being in the CadaverGirls Calendar and a Scream Queen of the Month opened many doors for you careerwise?

Oh hell to the yes it has! When Cadaver Girls contacted me, I was at the beginning of my alternative career - so I felt quite honored to be chosen. When I entered the Miss Horrorfest competition, I seriously didn't think I was going to make it as far as I did. I figured I was a horror MODEL not a horror ACTRESS, so no one would vote for me - boy was I wrong! Ha! The thing that I'm realizing is one thing always leads to another. Because after Miss Horrorfest I ended up on the scream queen website, I had no clue! I just checked my website stats and I had incoming hits from their site. I think with every project, and every web feature - eventually the entire world will be under my control and everyone will be demon crazy.

In the future do you plan on moving from your horror print work into movie roles?

Absolutely. I mean I have always done horror related projects, but my resume is very limited to on screen roles. I guess because I have no experience with this, Im not quite sure on how to get started. I just need someone to give me that opportunity.

Do you have any other upcoming projects you want the racksandrazors readers to know about?

Ha! Well of course! Recently I moved to Kentucky, because the overpriced city life was getting to me. So, now I'm starting a new life, and have tons of new ideas. One of which is a web based reality show featuring me, and some ghoulish friends. Of course I cant get much into detail, but I think everyone will be pleased with the finished results.

Vampires, werewolves, zombies, witches, creatures, aliens, telemarketers...what does it for you horrorwise Vanessa and why?

Vampires, zombies and creatures are always my favorite types of horror flicks. I've always enjoyed "The occult/mysterious" types, rather than the humans wielding chainsaws...ugh..BORING! However I would have to say the scariest would be telemarketers...sneaky little devils...NO I DO NOT WANT TO BUY A YEAR SUPPLY OF TWINKIES! STOP CALLING ME!

What was the first movie to scare the shit out of you?

2009 - 'Twilight'. It was so horrible that I cried during the entire thing.

Okay, we're pulling into the Vanessa Rosa Drive In. What three horror flicks are on the triple bill for tonight and what goodies are they going to be serving up at the concession stand?

My drive in? Haha! Well since it's my drive in - the first movie would be "Daybreakers" but since that movie does not actually come out until January the 8th, I'm going to make all you customers wait in your car for 2 weeks until It starts. Lets see, the other movies would be "Last House on the Left", as well as "Orphan". As for the concession stand, I think I'll be nice and put you all on a chocolate binge (since it is my favorite snack) Kit-kat bars, and Ferrero Rocher for everyone!

What is your dream (or nightmare) horror movie role?

I've always wanted to play a villain in a movie (big surprise I know) I just want to be that character that was your friend the entire flick and then half way through, just snaps and kills yah!

What's the best Halloween costume you ever had?

The one where I had my hair curlers in and my pink fluffy robe on - holding a shot gun, and yelling at the trick or treaters to get off my front lawn...wait that wasn't a costume.

What scares you in real life?

Geeze....ok definitely bugs - spiders, centipedes, even grasshoppers!
