A newlywed couple Victor (Leslie Odom Jr.) and Sorenne (Tracey Graves) are on their honeymoon in Haiti and a terrible earthquake occurs in which Soreene is injured and heavily pregnant in which there was a choice to save her or the unborn child in which he becomes a widow having to raise her daughter Angela (Lydia Jewett) all by himself.
Angela and her friend Katherine (Olivia O'Neill) decides to go out in the woods after school to summon up Angela's dead mother but end up missing for a few days.
They end up being found in a barn but the two of them have no recollection on what had happened. They act moody and then crazy in which they become possessed.
Victor goes to the aid of Chris MacNeill (Ellen Burstyn) whom has experienced her little girl being possessed to help people perform and exorcism with deadly consequences.

The beginning of this story is slightly different than what we'd expect from the previous sequels in which we spot a married couple Victor Fielding and his pregnant wife in Haiti having their honeymoon as this was well focused on twhat they're doing. It certainly makes you wonder as to what the outcome of all this. The terror and suspense happens big time when the earthquake occurs as it looked terrifying as well as wondering what the outcome on this pregnant woman if she will have a miscarriage during this situation. Also very tragic when Victor has to have a choice in who will be sacrficed when the earthquake settles down. Within all of this made me wonder if it was the devil's doing.
13 years have passed and we see an uplifting moment with Victor and his daughter Angela acting full of life when he makes breakfast before she goes to school which things look natural as it kind of reminded me on a situation in the original flick.
After school both Angela and her friend Katherine agrees to go out to the woods as the setting looked perfectly creepy. It for sure left a bad feeling as to what will happen later on in the story.
They end up missing which is a bone chiller and people go on a manhunt in the woods as this took place in the night as this was even creepier to watch and a great setting for a horror film. They find their shoes and stuff like that. Also a serpeant slithers out of this object. This for sure leaves a clue that the devil is at work on all of this. I begged watching for more as it was getting exciting so far.
While Victor is driving he gets a call that they might have found his daughter in which he drives recklessly to get to where she is found as this looked intensely suspenseful in which he was close to getting into an accident as there's great fast action camera shots on all of this.
Angela gets very weird around Victor when she is at home with him. This looked creepily mysterious as well he runs a bath for her and realises the water is dirty in which this looked spooky. Then a real surprise shot on Angela attacking him. This looked believeably terrorising to watch the outcome of all this.
Katherine herself returns to church and misbehaves and then stands out screaming out nasty words. This for sure is intense and disturbing for her doing this. Definetely a nice pointer in a supernatural flick like this one.
Ann tries to help Victor about his possessed daughter by showing a book on a mother encountering her daughter being possessed which is by Chris MacNeill. I was like oh yessss!!!! We get to see on what happened to her since she wasn't seen in the previous sequels.
The discussions between Victor and Chris was strongly and seriously driven in with good takes on the two of them. This was solidly performed indeed.
The exorcism is about to be performed and boy do things really get crazy here. Chris first talked to the possessed Katherine showing no mercy and them demon talking back to her as this for sure pays a tribute to the original and great intense and powerful actions between the two of them. I would say that this was my favourite scene.
While the priests perform on these two girls the devil tells them a tough situation which isn't an easy thing which affects the family on both sides as this was something different than in the previous times. Plus a real intense killing on someone as this looked hard to watch.
A great ending sequence in which we don't expect to see as it involves a surprise visit to Chris but I won't give it out. You have to see this for yourself and I was like "Shut up!!!!"
Bottom line is that this was one of the best sequels on the franchise and for sure beats a reboot as we need more sequels to the classics that we all adored. Some hated this one but I dug it and should be a pleaser to the die hard fans. Great special effects and lots of tension in it like in the original. Check it out.

The acting is well performed and believeable in which lead actor Leslie Odom Jr. (Victor Fielding) really shines off his part as a loving father showing alot of great adrenaline as he shows off a likeable personality. He is versatile when been frusterated and upset as this shines off as well. Does great with his aggressions and so fourth.
Lydia Jewett
(Angela Fielding) offered a ton of spunk and enthusiasm as a happy go lucky daughter showing a ton of happiness during the beginning of her performance. However, this changes after being possessed as she goes into a wild rage. She brought her horror charactistics to an extreme and knew on how to act vulgar and wild. She was a great character actress and can go places with her acting career.
Olivia O'Neill (Katherine) was another fine young actress showing a calm and kind behavior. Plus does a nice job as a teaser too. Really brought her possessed performance to a hype as well. Knew on how to act disturbing by what she was talking about with her intensity.
Jennifer Nettles (Miranda) does a nice job as her mother by having a warm attitude. Also does well by acting negative and forceful later on in her role. She for sure came across well as someone whom is closed minded when the terror happens. Does well acting scared within her actions.
Ann Dowd (Ann) knew how to portray a religious type with her nice calm and serious attitude. She brings on a ton of good characteristics as well as knowing her stuff by staying strong within talking towards others along with showing good energy when the exorcism happens.
Ellen Burstyn (Chris MacNeill) reprised her role from the original classic. Although it wasn't a huge role she was great in it. Offers a great still and serious one. Delivered her lines terrifically well. Knew on how to get her point across within her discussions. Showed a great still attitude when talking to the possessed child which was her best part in this flick. Way to go!!!!

Eyes are stabbed by a crucifix.

Amman Abbasi and David Wingo was terrific and dark with their classical scores expecially during the deep dark woods when the parents try to find their daughters. It really brought out the chills. A ton of intense violin music as well as deep sounds throughout the story. A great piano sounds for the original theme song when the people scout for Chris MacNeill. A ton of long sharp violin music when an exorcism is being performed. Plus some sad sounds for the necessary moments too. Yup they knew their craft for a supernatural horror flick. Check out the ending credits as the original theme song is played. A great touch indeed.
