A new medical student April (Jenny Boswell) works at a retirement home. But she also encounters a puppet created by a mysterious soul that goes on a bloody killing rage.

Impressive start of the film showing a senior citizen strapped down with flashes of stuff surrounding him as well as the Doktor Death character terrorising him which was well done.
Later on he is taken away from a seniors home reported dead in an ambulance. A nice start off to a horror story.
Then the new student at the place April is being introduced tot he workers and so fourth which was a good start. She meets up with another employer Ryan in which he is friendly with her. This all blended in nicely.
They discover a treasure chest type of box underneath a bed that belonged to the mysterious man that died. They try to open it. This of course leaves off an impression that something deadly is inside of it. While they open it. Surprise! Surprise! It's the Doktor Death figure. Then suddenly the opening credits start to roll. I'd have to say that this all showed awesome timing.
Jennifer shows April around the rooms in which she is greeted by the seniors in which they all are doing different activities especially a resident Gladys while painting a picture. This situation leads to a creepy moment later on in the story. You will see what I mean.
The next resident Dorothy has some sort of an apnea in which she can't speak properly. She is freaking out in which resides the doll Doktor Death lying in her room. I had to laugh as this figure looked too cute to being scary.
While everyone gathers for Gladys artwork not yet finished a funny shot on the Doktor Death doll sitting by a window sill. Dorothy stares at it in fright as well as April looking at this object too. Great shots on all of this adding some suspense and supposed terror. Of course this was too cute to being afraid of that I had to laugh.
What was really funny was when the staff all got together and were discussing the doll in which the goofball employee Flynn was talking cute to this object. Shortly later on he realises this thing is gone and is upset wanting it back demanding to the others about it. This moment for sure looked a bit effective.
The deadly moment is about to start in which a creepy but funny moment on a camera shot going up the stairs with heavy breathing. Then Dorothy is in her room with her breathing machine. A good angle shot on a door opening but this figure is too small to see and object coming in. The intensity occurs when this little gremlin type does something to her machine. A good sinking feeling that she will suffocate to death. This thing starts to cackle. I had to laugh seeing all this. It was for sure a cute horror fashion.
This little menacing figure kills the coroner which offers great horror violence using his dissecting tools on him. Can please slasher fans big time. Also a nice close up shot on the leather bag this dead body is in is opening which leaves a nice creepy mysterious feel to this.
When April is helping one of the residents Rufus he points something outside in which a thunderstorn happens. Of course this is a traditional horror moment to have this type of weather happening. She carefully goes to the window with good shots on her opening the curtains. This offers a great focusing moment that something scary happens with something outside. It works marvellously. Perfect horror timing here.
Flynn goes into a garage type area of the retirement home to find the doll in which things seem still. This of course leaves an eerie feeling that he will be the next victim. He finds the doll and it does something to spook him. A great touch here. Then he faces something that April saw in the window the night before which I won't give away. For sure this moment was a good add on to the horror story.
Then night falls with another thunderstorm in which Jennifer helps out Rufus in bed with his meds in which he tries to make a pass at her. Made me wonder if she will get it on with him. He of course offers her money. For sure a good add into the story since these types will be the next to die for doing something dirty. The situations here were well focused.
One of the managers Carmen goes down to the cellar as she is calling to some others and wondering what is happening there. A nice touch to the story which left a chilld down my spine as to wonder if she will be the next victim to go. Certainly was a well done scene.
A real dark moment is when April and Ryan are trying to break into Flynn's car to look for an object responsible for the doll. When they open the vehicle trunk they find a nice surprise leaving this moment a great dark feel to everything.
Jennifer returns to Rufus' room in which she plans to get it on with him. A good shot on what looks like covers over him. A nice drawing card when she slowly approaches this bed that it's not what is expected to be. This works all the time in a horror flick. More eerie moments that can make you scared at first with situations like this.
While the survivors try to look around for the rest there's some great bloodied stuff as well as to what they find with the residents. Nicely done here when we all wonder as to what happened to them all. Definitely not a nice feel at all. Made things mysterious beforehand.
Both April and Ryan spot a hulking skeletal figure towards them. This was supposed to look very scary to watch. It can scare people that don't like monstrous stuff but otherwise it looked a bit cheesy. Still it's fun to watch the outcome here.
Ryan struggles against this being as it looked energised and itense at a mediocre pace.
A new twist happens when April confronts this thing. All of this looked brilliant since we don't expect this at all which is a surprise for horror fans. I won't give it away. Then the closing credits happen way too soon.
I guess we have to wait for a sequel in which I hope Charles Band will do one as the fun had just begun.
Bottom line is that I dug this one. I was disappointed that the main puppet character's weren't in this one. Yet it was focused on one which is from Retro Puppet Master. When you see the near ending it will explain that this is a direct sequel to that one. Lots of cheesy special effects and fun touches in the flick. I just founf this little guy too funny in order to be scary. For die hard fans may be disappointed that there's just one puppet and not Blade with his gang. But for other who like a mysterious fun horror flick this one's for you.

The acting is fairly good in which Jenny Boswell (April) really brought it on with her patient attitude and being believable with her easy going attitude. She really acted convincingly nice and mature within what she does here. Shows off great energy and reactions to what went on there and was on the ball with alot of this.
Chad Patterson (Ryan) for sure added a ton of spunk and enthusiasm into all that he did here. Had a believable outgoing impression to his role. Really studied his part as someone whom is likeable and friendly. Had the motive for everything here. Probably the best in the cast.
Emily Sue Bengtson (Jennifer) brought on an energetic and hyped behavior which shines off fairly well. ALso shows the odd aggression in certain spots as she does this ins a fair fashion too. Does a nice job with her kinky behavior too.
Erin Eva Butcher (Carmen) seemed sharp in her performance. Does well with her speaking and clear with her words. Really got into her part as one of the management and had the perfect appeal to all this. ALso does a nice job while getting spooked or screaming too.
Zach Zebrowski (Flynn) grabbed my attention the most with his dimwitted behavior as someone who doesn't take his job seriously at all. Was a natural ham especially when he talks to the doll. I really laughed during this moment. Performed well acting stiff and weak in pain during the end of his performance too.

Emily Sue Bengtson shows off her breasts while nearly doing a striptease and about to get it on with a resident there.
There's also fully nude bodies on models plastered on a storage locker.

The back of someone's leg is bloodily sliced.
Plucked out eyes.
Head is stabbed by a garden tool. Blood dripping down.
Throat is bloodily slit.
Head is a bit bloodied next to a pool of blood.
Woman's head is stabbed by paintbrushes.
Head is stabbed by a dissecting knife.

Richard Band and Jerry Smith composes this piece with great style. Offers some screechy sounds. Some effective violin music which is probably on a synthesizer. Still it sounds good. Also great icy intense sounds for the killings which added great timing. Hissing sounds here and there which is a good bonus. A touch of chiming effects too which worked in greatly. For the opening of this flick some airy type deep violin sounds and then getting into the theme song but played in a different way with this deep violin music which sounded okay. The closing credits has the classic theme song which was right on!!!!!
