Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) is now married, moved away to an isolated area and living a better life. However, a new Ghostface killer emerges there causing danger for her daughter Tatum (Isabel May). He presents himself on a video call as Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard) whom was killed at the end of the original flick. Is he back from the dead???

At the start of the story things looked impressive with two die hard fans of the Stab movies going to Stu Macher's home which is for fans to stay at in which it shows many displays including a Ghostface display.
There's a phone call with the killers voice asking horror trivia in which we all knew was a welcoming call to the home they're staying at. This was nicely set as we all get a feeling that later on they will get a call from an actual killer later on.
Boy is there ever surprises later on offering the odd jumps and a nice effective moment with a fire incident. This leaves off to a great start before the opening credits.
Then a nice peaceful scenario in a small town where a house is displayed along with a teenage girl Tatum having a discussion with her boyfriend Ben Brown after sneaking into her window without letting her parents know. THen we reveal Tatum's mother whom is no other than our beloved Sidney. A great presence we have here as she lectures them on what they were doing.
Things looked neat when we see Sidney's new life as a family woman in which she's married to a police officer named Mark which seemed fitting to being safe from danger like she has in the past as well as trying to stay away from her hometown.
Then Sidney gets the call from the killer in which she shows a great courageous and sarcastic attitude within all of this as this looked greatly impressive in this scene as well as a good motive for the latest one in the sequels.
It's more impressive when he requests a video call with a nice surprising moment on a scarred and aged Stu in which he shows off great rage towards her. We all wonder as to how he is still alive which draws off an unsolved mystery. This moment was well written into the story.
He tells her his plans for his daughter at her school which offers a ton of great fear with Sidney trying to get there on time. It made me want to watch for more and can please the fans of the legacy for the same thing.
The highschool kids are rehearsing for their school play in which there's some screw ups and so fourth. It almost adds some dry humor within what is going on here.
The terror starts afterwards when one of the cast members is on wires as her role is a flying type of fairy and the killer plays games with her rising her high up in the air and then dropping her almost to the floor. I watched carefully to see as to what happens next. Things don't look pretty let me tell ya.
Creepy moments happen in Sidney's home as well as her attic when in the background Ghostface emerges and is sneaky on stuff. Plus the family realises some of their lights are shut off and so fourth and it wasn't them. A nice horror touch here.
More terrorising moments occur between Sidney and Tatum
are in a safe room of the home and this maniac stabs the walls with nice camera shots on all of this. Makes you wonder if they will survive this.
Later on Ghostface is standing in the road and a great surprise attack on a vehicle which made me jump out of my seat. I cheered for joy for this as well as who came out of this vehicle whom happens to be Gale Weathers. I cheered which showed awesome timing on this.
Tatum brings all of her friends to discuss the situations on what is going on as well as who the killers plans are. They discuss the scream queen like Jamie Lee Curtis always surviving the Halloween sequels which is based on her mother and so fourth.
Gale does a live interview show with Sidney to discuss on what had happened to her in the previous years of the killings in which their interaction looked good. However, Gale asks her things that are too personal which drew me in wondering if a fight will break out or not.
One of their cell phone rings afterwards since we know who it is in which it is Stu or so we may think as he gets nastier on stuff. This adds more horror timing on what is next to be with future victims.
This includes Mark when he enters the front of his home with some tarps surrounding the garage with great suspenseful looking camera shots on him slowly approaching. I got an eerie feeling that he will meet his fate. The situations afterwards reminds me on something out of Black Christmas.
The small village closes up early for curfew like in the original and the place is dead in which Tatum tries to survive the killings in the town in which there's many struggles and many shocking killings with her friends and so fourth.
Sidney instructs Tatum on the phone as what to do to survive the killer as all of this was totally action packed. Lots of violent moments as we all think that Ghostface is going to get creamed!
The final showdowns were the best in the story as Sidney spots the unsolved mystery on Stu which offers great special effects and other strong moments in this scene.
She returns to her home to see Tatum tied and gagged to a chair with duct tape like in the beginning with a jock from the original flick. How this was set up looked terrific.
The fun is about to begin when we spot two Ghostface killer revealing themselves and acting insane. It was for sure clever like in all of them that you never figure as who it really was till near the end of the story.
Ton of action packed moments when one of them gets whats coming to them as this will please slasher fans who love shocking horror violence.
Bottom line is that this film had mixed reviews and to be totally honest I really dug it. It was like a retelling of the first one that was happening to Sidney's daughter and so fourth. This and the previous sequel was a great improvement. I hope they make another one since the makers are on the right track this time around. It's still very clever to boggle you as to who the killer really is in this one as well as wondering how Stu was still alive but I won't spoil it for ya!

The acting is well performed in which this has to be the best performance of Neve Campbell (Sidney Evans) of all the Scream flicks. She really knew on how to tackle the role by being a family woman with her seriousness as a mother to her daughter. Shows off a perfect seriousness and mature behavior in many ways. Reacts well to the deadly call in the beginning by acting sarcastic and not taking crap which was brought to life with her attitude here. Does well with her rage along with her emtional behavior when the terrors strike. She was indeed a full force of energy within all that she did here. It was great to have her back.
Courtney Cox (Gale Weathers) showed off a terrific presence during the beginning of her performance showing to everyone that she's back with a vengeance. Was sharp with her speaking as always and really knew on how to drive her energy within whatever she was talking about. Of course had a no nonsense attitude which shines off too.
Isabel May (Tatum Evans) did well as a typical teenager as well as showing a smart behavior. Does well reacting to what is happening around her along with crying in fear. She showed off some terrific energy whenever she had to be this way.
Jasmin Savoy Brown (Mindy Meeks-Martin) seemed to really spring into action a great deal along with the rest but having a young and eager type of persona. Has a good reaction to what she was talking about. Offers a ton of excitement with her attitude.
Mason Gooding (Chad Meeks-Martin) really had a spunky behavior as well as being really bubbly with his speaking. He truly was believable with his outgoing behavior and making his part truly likeable. Has a great presence onto the camera while he performs which is a nice plus.
Joel McHale (Mark Evans) seemed to come across as a happy go lucky type of lawman. Studied his part well for being like this as well as a caring family man too. Delivers his lines well and was a convincing character actor not letting an ounce of energy down by what he does. Had the right looks and appeal which was a good choice for this kind of role.
Anna Camp (Jessica Bowden) offered a nice soft speaking and mellow attitude. Also was strong when she tells someone to stay away from her kid which stands out powerfully. Offers a great versatality later on by really acting wild and aggressive. SHows great adrenaline. One of the best supporting cast members.
Sam Rechner (Ben Brown) of course plays the boy next door. Offers a good and sympathetic behavior as well as really acting anxious and making it look convincing. Plus shows off a good versatality as a suspect. He seemed to know his craft in a good fashion.
Matthew Lillard (Stu Macher) performed differently than in the original but in a great way. He brought out a perfect vengeful behavior and knowing how to go made and wild. Plus was good and vicious with his speaking. Was truly intimidating and perfectly nasty. Offered great insane expressions too. Way to go!

Blade is stabbed through someone's head
Teen is gutted open
Throat is openly slit
Lots of bloodsheds
Tons of bloody stabbings
Persons head is impaled on a beer fountain in a bar
Face is bloodily shot and blown off

Marco Beltrami uses some of the same formula and some different one's too all sounding superb. Of course we hear intense classical composing with slamming and crashing sounds for when the killer is on the chase for the victims. Plus nice long clear sounding music in other spots of the story which was perfect to listen to while watching the scene's that were put into the story. Odd electronic sounds too in certain spots which wasn't shabby either.
