Max Renn (James Woods) is a programmer at a station that specialises in pornography in which he discovers a tape called Videodrome that is a snuff flick as well as this object being dangerous and possessing him to have hallucinations on doing deadly deeds.

The start of this film is hard to understand but it shows our main character Max Renn watching some sort of a porn flick as well as later on what looks like perverted snuff flicks in which I find gross and disturbing to watch the outcomes of all of this while meeting with others in a conference room. This was a video tape called Videodrome and the shows of the future. Twisted stuff indeed!
Afterwards Max is interviewed on a talk show hosted by Nicki Brand in which he dicusses Videodrome as this scene really draws you in and making things look truly mysterious. A necessary scene for a flick like this. The surroundings on this talk show was very mysterious.
He gets intimate with Nicki while watching the tape as she shows him cuts on her neck and wanting to have some torture while they have sex as this for sure looked pretty warped. A great artsy shot on their lusting which looked strong and dark while watching as to what they do to one another.
Max meets up the next day with an older wise woman Masha in an egyptian looking cafe to discuss the tape as while he explains the outcomes of this tape she warns him about the dangers of the tape as this drew me in to watch for more later on in the story and a memorable scene for anyone who watched this flick in which their dicussions were drawn in big time.
While Max looks for evidence on the tape he finds information with a mysterious woman
Bianca O'Blivion in which the surroundings on whaat they were talking about was well set.
Things really steam up big time as someone comes into his home and he slaps her a couple times in which I was thinking WTF??? But suddenly after that there's a different situation with her as this boggled me. Was this a hallucination? It's for sure the tape playing games with him. So I wanted to watch some more to find out what else is going to happen.
He is watching TV and the person on the screen is talking to him. Suddenly, that changes as he spots Nicki on the screen being lustful. Max goes closer to the screen and there's great special effects that happens as this was one of my favourite scene's in the film. Is this another hallucination??? Check it out if you dare!!!
Tons of other twisted moments happen in the story in which someone on the TV named Barry Convex, asking him to come into his store in which he does so and puts a viewing mechanism on his head to look for anything as he makes out that he might not stick around till afterwards when his time is up on it. This gave me the chills wondering if Max himself will survive with this object placed on him for the time being.
When other horror events unravel it looks psychotic as to what happens to Max in which things out of the ordinary happens to him including one of his working partner suddenly turning on him with the aid of Barry. Is it another hallucination or is this for real!?! A real teaser here for sure.
Quarter way through in the story Max's hand becomes some sort of a slimy monstrous object while carrying a gun controlling him to kill the people that were responsible for his halluciantions which came from the tape and boy do things look gruesome and graphic. Fans that like their horror violence may find this amusing as the gruesome moments were out of the oridinary.
Bottom line is that this is a cleverly done mysterious Canadian the combines horror, sci-fi and mystery all into one. It's certainly a weird flick but in a great twisted way. THis is for sure a cult classic and would recommend anyone who likes wierd flick to check this one out. This definetely plays tricks with your mind while watching all of this. You think to yourself "It's not for real.... Yes it is!!!" The snuff tapes are disturbing to watch for sure as if it was really happening. You can't compare this flick to any other one. It's very unique and a cult classic!!!

The acting is in great shape as lead actor James Woods (Max Renn) shows off a solid performance. He shows off a great serious attitude whenever discussing something as well as being lightheaded too. He did it all here. Plus does a nice job by losing his sanity and control of things. Reacts well when freaking out after he attacks someone. A true character actor.
Sonja Smits (Bianca O'Blivion) certainly drew in with her mysterious and somewhat wicked behavior. She was a strong force into the camera within her presence. Plus she does it strongly with her emotionless and serious expressions as if there's something evil about her.
Surprise Surprise, we have Blondie rocker Debbie Harry (Nicki Brand) as she really proves herself to being a worthy character actress. Another one whom was a mysterious type. Also does great with her soothing and lustful voice. One of the best performers in this flick.
Peter Dvorsky (Harlan) portrayed a nice sidekick on the projects that were involved in the flicks. He shows off a deceivingly innocent attitude on what he does throughout the story. Plus shows off a nice cold atttiude later on. Shows off a nice versatality.
Leslie Carlson (Barry Convex
) was a nice force of evil especially when he is talking onto the TV towards someone else. He for sure was someone that you wouldn't trust worth a damn. ALso had the evil look and presence to his role. A right choice of casting indeed!
Lynne Gorman (Masha) was one more person who came across mysterious but a kind hearted and open minded type. She shows off a good natured attitude when having a discussion. Plus draws you in when she warns someone about the videotape being dangerous as she was good within her words while discussing it.

There's picture of two topless asians.
Breasts are exposed on a videotape.
Woman is fully nude on the same tape while being tortured to death.
A man's and woman's butt shot is revealed as well as a breats shot too while lusting together.

Some body parts are devoured with strange objects spiking out
Person's stomach opens up
A weapon is being stabbed in a person's hand
People are bloodily shot
Man is slaughtered with strange insides popping out

Howard Shore is brilliant with his composing in which he has great light high pitched airy and other types of synthesizer playing suitable for both sci-fi and horror. Of course this flick was both genres. The creepy and mysterious scene's sounded fantastic. Plus there's also the odd violin low and deep sounds especially for a lustful scene in which is hard to forget after watching this one.

Nicki Brand: Got any porno?
Max Renn: You serious?
Nicki Brand: Yeah. It gets me in the mood. [looks through casettes] What's this? "Videodrome"?
Max Renn: Torture. Murder.
Nicki Brand: Sounds great.
Max Renn: Ain't exactly sex.
Nicki Brand: Says who?

Max Renn: Do you know a show called 'Videodrome'?
Masha: Video what?
Max Renn: Videodrome. Like video circus, video arena. Do you know it?
Masha: No.
Max Renn
: It's just torture and murder. No plot, no characters. Very, very realistic. I think it's what's next.
Masha
: Then God help us.
Masha: Videodrome. What you see on that show, it's for real. It's not acting. It's snuff TV.
Max Renn: I don't believe it.
Masha: So, don't believe.
Max Renn: Why do it for real? It's easier and safer to fake it.
Masha: Because it has something that you don't have, Max. It has a philosophy. And that is what makes it dangerous.

Barry Convex: You'll forgive me if I don't stay around to watch. I just can't cope with the freaky stuff.
